A person holding a Palm Sunday protest sign reading “Hosanna! Save Us From,” framed by palm branch illustrations.

Last year, on the shared birthday of President Donald Trump and the United States Army, a highly public display of centralized military power was met with a chorus of resistance under the banner of No Kings.

In one city, a military parade.

In cities across the country (and the world), public resistance.

For those paying attention, the parallel to Palm Sunday felt striking.

A procession of power.

A counter-procession of protest.

Two presentations proclaiming what kind of world was possible.

Palm Sunday and the No Kings Protest

This year, the intersection of Palm Sunday and No Kings will be impossible to ignore; theologian Diana Butler Bass was quick to take notice:

The next No Kings protest is scheduled for March 28, the day before Palm Sunday. For Christians, the liturgical and theological possibilities are amazing. Get ready. And I imagine there will be a lot of palms waving that day!

— Diana Butler Bass (@dianabutlerbass.bsky.social) 2026-01-29T02:56:06.591Z

On March 28, people will gather once again under the banner of No Kings, protesting President Trump and his administration’s tactics of fear, intimidation, and violence.

On March 29, Christian churches will gather for Palm Sunday, retelling the story of Jesus’ public procession into Jerusalem—a protest parade that disrupted expectations of power and reimagined what leadership could be.

Palm Sunday Is a Political Story

Palm Sunday reminds us that faith has always spilled into ordinary, public spaces and invites us to consider the kind of leadership we celebrate and the kind of world we long to create. Which is why we’ve created free, downloadable protest posters inspired by the story of Palm Sunday.

These signs serve not as partisan slogans, but as theological statements. A reminder that Christian faith resists authoritarian power and aligns with a different vision of leadership rooted in humility, justice, and love. We have created three different poster designs you can download below.

Blessed are the Peacemakers, Not the Kingmakers

Protest sign "Blessed are the Peacemakers Not the Kingmakers" against wood background.
Close up on the dove breaking a crown on the protest sign "Blessed are the Peacemakers Not the Kingmakers."

We loved The Work of Imagination logo so much that we turned it into a poster…and a sticker…and a flag…and you can even order shirts, too! The dove is often seen as a symbol of peace. But peace is not passive or submissive; it moves with power, disrupts what harms, and builds what frees. Promote the work of peace with a sign that literally breaks the crown of empire.

Also available:

  • “Blessed Are the Peacemakers, Not the Kingmakers” Stickers
  • “Blessed Are the Peacemakers, Not the Kingmakers” Flag
  • “Blessed Are the Peacemakers, Not the Kingmakers” Apparel (shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies)

We Wave Palms, They Waive Constitutional Rights

Scripture commands us to love our neighbors, welcome foreigners, and protect the vulnerable—yet the leaders who proclaim Christianity loudest are the same ones stripping due process from immigrants, challenging birthright citizenship, and silencing dissent. When they waive constitutional rights with one hand and wave a Bible with the other, we see the corruption clearly. Call it out.

  • “We Wave Palms, They Waive Constitutional Rights” Flag

Hosanna! Save Us From _______

When Jesus entered Jerusalem, people in the crowd shouted “Hosanna!” which means “Save us!” Fill in this sign with words and images, whether on your own or as a group. What are you crying out to God to save us from?

This comes in both a black and white print, and a colorable version that you can customize even more.

I’m not finding a box to complete for the downloadable protest posters. Maybe this request will get to the right task group.

I’ve filled out the green box three times, but I haven’t received any emails. I’m trying to plan a children-friendly protest table for our church at No Kings
