Since launching Mini Revolutions in the Fall of 2021, the two most common questions we’re asked are:
- How do you decide which scriptures to include?
- Why is it called “Mini Revolutions”?
The answers to both begin in the same place: the sacred cycles of the church year.

How We Choose Bible Stories for Mini Revolutions
Scripture Selection That Honors the Whole Church
Mini Revolutions follows the Revised Common Lectionary, a shared rhythm many progressive and mainline churches follow. But we don’t just follow the Revised Common Lectionary, we engage it pastorally.
Each month, we review the suggested texts for the season and ask:
- Does this passage offer a meaningful narrative or theme?
- Is it developmentally appropriate and adaptable across ages?
- Can it be paraphrased faithfully for children?
- Does it speak into our world now, with room for reflection, not fear?
Our process is guided by the liturgical cycle of the church year and the emotional, spiritual needs of communities today. Our goal is to build a curriculum that speaks to all ages, the youngest, the oldest, and everywhere in between.
Paraphrased with Purpose
Once selected, we paraphrase each scripture in our Bible Story Booklet, using:
- Inclusive, expansive language for God and people
- Visuals that invite curiosity and participation
- Context that helps set the stage for the story
- Stories that focus on wonder, justice, and connection
You won’t find heavy-handed doctrine or violent frameworks. Just clear, faithful storytelling that supports leaders to read aloud with confidence and empowers kids to understand the stories without needing a footnote.

Revolutions: A Rhythmic Approach to Faith Formation
We believe faith isn’t linear—it’s cyclical, like the church calendar and like real growth. Revolution—in the sense of great change—doesn’t happen overnight, even if it appears suddenly. Great change begins with small movements, like the act of noticing. After noticing something, we might implement small practices. Then, we might reflect on the impact of those small practices.
Each week invites us again into small acts of spiritual revolution:
- Noticing
- Practicing
- Reflecting
- Beginning again
These movements may be quiet, but they are sacred and mighty.
Why It All Matters
We believe faith is persistent and unhurried; growing slowly through noticing, practicing, reflecting, and loving well.
We believe stories matter. Rhythms heal. And even the simplest lesson can spark deep growth.
That’s why we choose scripture the way we do.
That’s why the curriculum is simple and meaningful.
And that’s why we named it Mini Revolutions.
