Our Psalms Coloring Posters include nine unique coloring posters. The Psalms passages are from the Revised Common Lectionary (Year B) readings. Each of the illustrations highlights specific themes and emotions from the Psalm. The texts from the Psalms are also incorporated into the drawing.
So whether you’re looking for an intergenerational program, a communal art activity or something a little different to do for Lent this year, our Psalms Coloring Posters provide a creative, engaging and participatory way for ALL AGES to engage with their faith.
GIVING CHILDREN NEW WAYS TO PARTICIPATE IN WORSHIP!
"These children were so proud of their creations! The two older children on the left read poster descriptions and we sang a hymn for each one, too.
During the hymn sing, teenage boys walked the poster through the congregation before bringing it to tape on the frame. Apparently, the kids' eyes lit up when they realized everyone was looking at what they had worked so hard on!"
CREATIVE COLORING HELPS BREAK LANGUAGE BARRIERS
We've had quite a few churches take our large coloring posters with them when they go on mission and service trips, especially to places that speak a different language.
Being able to gather with other young people and color creates an instant shared activity and allows for casual conversation and the ability to communicate through art.
COLORING CREATES CONVERSATIONS
This is a story we hear over and over from our customers:
"We gathered together and started coloring...and then, it was AMAZING to see people just start talking, sharing stories, and having really meaningful conversations!"
Participating in the shared activity of coloring allows for the Spirit to move in new ways!
Since 2015, thousands of churches, schools, hospitals, retirement communities, nursing homes, campus ministries and other communities from around the world, have found creative and engaging ways to use our large coloring posters to build community.
Whether it's the conversations that you'll experience while you're coloring, or the people who will stick around for a little longer during coffee hour because they want to stay and finish coloring...you'll be amazed at the way in which these coloring posters bring together a diverse group of all ages to experience a deepened sense of community.
Do you like the idea of our coloring posters...in theory? Not sure if they would work in your congregation? Maybe you're concerned you don't have enough kids to color. Or you don't think the adults in your congregation would be interested in coloring. Or you just can't quite picture it.
Well, take a look at this video we put together to get a sense of what it could look like in your community.
The Psalms are a great source of theological creativity, depth, and wonder. Reading the Psalms allows us learn that emotions are a good thing, and that we shouldn't try to hide them from God. Reading the Psalms gives us words to express the feelings we have, and helps us to see the authors of the Psalms struggled with many of the same things we struggle with.
Another great reason to purchase our Psalms Coloring Posters is that they can be used anytime you want, and are not uniquely tied to Lent. While the Psalms come from the RCL texts for Lent (Year B), these are also Psalms that can (and should!) be studied throughout the year so it isn't a problem if you don't finish all the posters. Use a few during Lent, save one for a youth group retreat, or use another for a women's Bible study.
Below I’ve listed each of the posters with the accompanying scripture, as well as which days in Lent we would suggest using each of the posters, if you were going to use them in Lent. You can also get a preview of each of the nine illustrations below.
Our Psalms Coloring Posters are made up of 9 large posters. Each poster is 2' x 3' and you can purchase the physical posters, digital files to print yourself, or get both at a discount. We also have 8.5x11 coloring pages available here.

We are so excited to see all of the creative ways that congregations and communities use our Psalms Coloring Posters.
We’ve learned that most churches find the posters to be perfect for developing intergenerational ministry and connections. If you’re looking for ways to use these posters intergenerationally, here are a few ideas:
Gather both young and old together for an intergenerational education hour. Use our devotional guide (purchased separately) and enjoy coloring and conversation.
Many churches have topical Bible Studies throughout the year. Why not get a group together and do an in-depth study on the Psalms and color while you learn!
Have your children’s/youth ministry take a poster to a nursing home to color with the residents. Or leave some with the residents and pick them up to share with your church.
Your church could host a simple soup/salad/sandwiches dinner on Wednesday nights during Lent and have conversation and coloring before or after eating together.
Leave the coloring posters out on tables during Coffee Hour/Fellowship Hour after church for people of all ages to sit, color, and talk with one another.
Dedicate a portion of your worship space to allow young people (and the young at heart) to color during worship. A great way for children to engage with worship in a new way.
Churches from around the world, and from more than 60+ denominations (many of which are listed below) have used Illustrated Ministry's resources and products with their congregations. We'd love to support the ministry you're doing!
